Eighteen churches in the Mabaruma sub-district, Region One, today received garbage receptacles aimed at strengthening sanitation management and promoting healthier community spaces. The initiative forms part of President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s national beautification campaign, which seeks to enhance environmental cleanliness and civic pride across Guyana.

The items were officially handed over at the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) compound by Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal, and Regional Chairman, Mr. Brentnol Ashley.

Minister Croal emphasized the government’s commitment to improving community aesthetics as a means of fostering pride and responsibility among citizens. He announced that the broader initiative also includes plans to establish modern, functional landfill sites in every region to improve waste management and sustainability.

Regional Chairman Ashley added that the beautification drive will extend beyond the distribution of receptacles, with local authorities tasked with removing derelict vehicles, cleaning creeks and trenches, and enhancing public spaces.

He noted that these efforts aim to set a new national standard for cleanliness and community upkeep, aligning with the government’s vision for a more beautiful and environmentally conscious Guyana.
