Family, friends, and colleagues gathered at the Memorial Gardens in Georgetown on Friday to celebrate the life and legacy of Attorney-at-Law Rinee Kissoon, whose warmth, resilience, and dedication to justice left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

Kissoon, remembered as a loving mother, devoted wife, and passionate advocate for justice, was posthumously conferred the title of Senior Counsel by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, recognising her exemplary service and the high standards she set in the legal fraternity.

In a heartfelt tribute, her husband, Chief Justice Navindra Singh, described Kissoon as his “wife, partner, and best friend.” He reflected on their shared journey, including the opening of their law firm in 2008, and their mutual passion for the law.

“She cared deeply about others and left her mark wherever she went,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion. “Even when life brought her to her knees, she stood tall. Those we love never truly leave us, they live on in our hearts,” he added.

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Priya Manickchand remembered Kissoon as “an outstanding attorney whose drive and advocacy inspired many.”

President Dr. Irfaan Ali described her as compassionate, patient, and admired for her professionalism.

“It is therefore my honour today, to confer posthumously upon her, the title of Senior Counsel—a distinction she earned through her mastering of the law, her dedication to justice, and the example she set for the younger members of the bar,” he said.

He added that Kissoon’s life embodied “what can be achieved through perseverance and grace,” noting that her quiet strength continues to inspire those in the legal community and beyond.

Kissoon, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2015, faced her illness with remarkable courage, according to her family. Despite enduring countless challenges, she continued to work and serve others, guided by determination and a spirit of forgiveness.

She was also a devoted mother to her two children, aged 16 and 14, whom she adored deeply.

As loved ones laid her to rest, memories of Kissoon’s kindness, brilliance, and unwavering strength filled the air—a reminder that while her earthly journey has ended, her legacy of love, resilience, and justice will live on.
