The newly elected Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Councillors of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) for Region Six were officially sworn in this afternoon during a ceremony held at the RDC boardroom in New Amsterdam.

The event was attended by Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha, and Member of Parliament Zamal Hussain.

During the proceedings, Junior Basant was nominated unopposed as Chairman, while Sahid Khan was similarly nominated unopposed as Vice Chairman. Both took the oath of office administered by the Regional Executive Officer and Clerk of Council, Mr. Narindra Persaud.

Minister Mustapha congratulated the newly appointed officials, emphasizing the importance of unity and service to the people of East Berbice-Corentyne. He expressed confidence that the new council will continue to build on the region’s development agenda, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure, and social services.

The council is scheduled to hold its first statutory meeting on the first Thursday of November and will continue to meet monthly thereafter.

Those sworn in represent three political groups: the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).

PPP/C Councillors: Doreen Alpin-Annamantadoo, Junior Basant, Dhanwattie Sheriann Beharry, Alicia Dowridge, Senel Ocienia Drepaul, Juliet Rosemary Jacobs, Wajid Saheed Khan, Elizabeth Aelin Regina Leitch-Austin, Shenellie Alexis Tabitha Matheson-Jafarally, Deonarine Persaud, Katherine Prasad, Gavin Wazim Ragnauth, Shannon Ramnauth, Surujdyal Sahadeo, Lounita Devi Sanichar, Shaun Erwell Smith, Intikab Ali Subhanallie, Swarendra Sukhpaul, Marshall Vanburn Augustus Thompson, Laurence Stuart Vandenburgh, Reynard Alvin Ward.

WIN Councillors: Krishna Beerbusham, Soroya Olivia Crawford-Downer, Eon Lewis, Heerawattie Mangaldeen, Trishanna Naomi Park, Devendra Singh.

 

APNU Councillors: Mehalai Natasha McAlmont, Collin Emanuel Moore, Candy Ramona Stewart.

The swearing-in marks the official start of a new term for the Region Six RDC, which plays a key role in advancing the government’s plans for regional growth and community development.
