Ruddy Raymond, a 36-year-old man of Lima, Essequibo Coast, has been identified as the man who died in a three-vehicle accident on Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara, on Saturday afternoon. Several others were injured in the accident.

Police in a release said Raymond was a passenger aboard minibus #BAH 9443 when the accident occurred around 17:00hrs. He was examined by a doctor at the scene and pronounced dead. His body was escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

According to police, the minibus, driven by a 31-year-old male of Kitty, Georgetown, was proceeding north along the eastern driving lane of the western carriageway when motor lorry #GAF 1093, travelling north along the western driving lane of the same carriageway, allegedly made a sharp right turn into its path.

The minibus struck the right side of the lorry, collided with the median, crossed into the eastern carriageway and toppled onto its right side, striking motor car #PJJ 1664, which was travelling south.

The driver of the motor car, a 28-year-old male of Diamond, East Bank Demerara, and his 23-year-old female passenger of Friendship, East Bank Demerara, sustained minor injuries. The minibus driver and six surviving passengers were taken to Diamond Regional Hospital for treatment.

Two breathalyser tests conducted on the lorry driver, a 55-year-old male of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, returned readings of 0.003 per cent and 0.004 per cent. He is in police custody assisting with investigations.
