Parmeshwar Lionel, a 20-year-old watchman, was on Friday remanded to prison after appearing before the Whim Magistrate's Court charged with the murder of 27-year-old Naresh Seecharran, who was fatally stabbed during an argument that escalated into a confrontation at Haswell, Port Mourant, Corentyne.

Lionel, also known as "Small Man," of Lacabhor, West Canje, Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Tuanna Hardy, where the indictable charge was read to him. He was not required to enter a plea.

Lionel was remanded to prison, and the matter was adjourned until 31 July.

The charge stems from the death of Naresh Seecharran, also known as "Cat Man," of Lot 47 Glasgow, East Bank Berbice.

According to police, the fatal incident occurred at about midnight on Tuesday at Lot 39 Haswell, where Seecharran and several others were reportedly consuming alcohol and playing music outside an apartment.

Investigators said Seecharran was liming with Shawn Abraham, 21, Kenny Abraham, 23, and Dharam Bownauth, called "Fat Boy," when an argument broke out between him and Lionel which turned into a physical confrontation.

During the scuffle, investigators alleged that Seecharran ran into the apartment's kitchen and armed himself with a small Rambo knife taken from a wares rack. Police further alleged that Lionel pursued him, wrestled the knife away, and stabbed Seecharran once to the left side of his neck.

Lionel allegedly fled the scene on foot towards his workplace at No. 19 Village, Corentyne.

The incident was reported to police at approximately 00:18 hrs, and officers responding to the scene found Seecharran lying on his back outside the apartment.

He was dressed in black long pants, green boxer shorts, a blood-stained vest, and was barefooted. He had sustained a stab wound to the left side of his neck.

Seecharran was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr Omapersaud.
Acting on information gathered during the investigation, police later arrested Lionel at No. 19 Village.
