Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony has praised doctors, nurses, emergency medical teams, members of the Joint Services, forensic personnel and volunteers for their round-the-clock response to the MV Barima disaster, describing their work as marked by steadfast professionalism and selfless service.

Dr Anthony has been on the ground since the tragedy, visiting survivors receiving medical care and meeting with relatives of those who died. He has held discussions with medical teams at various facilities to assess the ongoing care being provided to survivors.

The Minister offered condolences to affected families, noting that the grief experienced by mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, children, siblings and friends reflected the scale of the tragedy's human cost. Families were not alone in their grief, he added, and the nation stood with them.

Dr Anthony also pointed out that many lives were saved despite the scale of the disaster. Survivors recovering from physical and emotional trauma had shown resilience, he noted, offering prayers for their full recovery. He said the healthcare system had responded swiftly in the critical hours following the disaster, ensuring the injured received timely treatment.

He called on citizens to honour those who died, support affected families and remain united during the recovery period.
