Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret'd) Mark Phillips has reaffirmed Region Ten's place at the heart of the government's development agenda, pledging that Linden will continue to benefit from targeted programmes and projects shaped by residents' own priorities.
Addressing residents at the Christianburg Community Centre Ground on Thursday, Phillips said the administration's approach has been to engage communities directly, identify their priorities and use those concerns to shape future programmes and projects.
"We capture your concerns, we capture all your dreams, what you want us to do as a government for your community, and we put it on the database and we utilize it to design the next set of programs and projects to deliver to your community," the Prime Minister said.
Building on that commitment, Phillips, after listening to residents' concerns, pledged a number of improvement initiatives, including drainage and irrigation consultations to assist with flooding. He also pointed to a new medical supplies regional distribution bond that was commissioned at Amelia's Ward prior to the community outreach.
He went on to encourage residents to remain involved in the consultation process, noting that their participation is necessary to ensure future projects respond to the needs of their communities.
Also addressing residents, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson pointed to the scale of investment in Linden.
"We had over a thousand people in the last few years getting contracted work. Over twenty billion dollars," he said.
He added that the level of expenditure was particularly significant when measured against the region's population.
"When you consider the population size, there's no other space that has more expenditure than here in Region 10. That's a fact," he said.
Turning to upcoming projects, Ramson said a new Mackenzie stadium will be commissioned within the next two months, and the new Christianburg Wismar Secondary School will follow by next year. He also committed to a number of developmental projects, including repairs to the community centre.
