A woman narrowly escaped a fire that gutted her father-in-law's home at Centre Road, Ogle, East Coast Demerara, last night around 10pm.

Zebina Yasseen told Ignite News she was sleeping downstairs when she heard a noise upstairs and hurried to open the door. She said the fire had already started, forcing her to run outside with nothing but the clothes she was wearing.

"When I coming out, the fire start dropping down and I run outside, as you can see I am with my sleeping outfit," she said.

The property's owner, 65-year-old Sheik Yasseen, had just come from the Guyana Amazon Warriors' match against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and had stopped at a nearby shop to make a purchase when he received the news.

"I get a call from my neighbour that said the house on fire, that's all nothing more, I lost everything…. I live upstairs my son live downstairs, we had couple well cars in the yard … all damage," Yasseen told this publication.

Three fire tenders responded and prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby properties.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
