A 46-year-old miner has died after being attacked at Toroparo Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River, with police investigating the incident as a murder.

Sceon Elias, of Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara, was allegedly wounded at about 5:40pm on Sunday, during an incident involving another 46-year-old miner, of Four Miles, Bartica.

He was taken to a medical facility at Toroparo, where he was treated for a laceration to his head, before being transferred to the Bartica Regional Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries at about 9:30am on Wednesday.

The suspect is in police custody assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing.
