Micheal Embrack and Rada Corlette have been remanded on a robbery under arms charge over a September 20 home invasion in East Canje in which $375,000 in cash and valuables were stolen.
Embrack, 39, called "Duck-man", a self-employed man of Fort Ordinance, East Canje, and Corlette, 36, called "Vanessa", a self-employed woman of Fryish Village, Corentyne, appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Albion Magistrate's Court.
The indictable charge, laid under Section 222(c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, was read to them without a plea. Bail was refused.
Police said the two, who are reportedly in a relationship, were arrested on September 26 and charged days later with robbing Parsaram Arnold, 32, at Burn Bush Dam, East Canje.
According to police, Corlette allegedly recorded videos of the layout, security arrangements and some items inside Arnold's home and shared them with her partner. Investigations led to her arrest, and the two were reportedly together in a car at the time.
Three men, reportedly armed with guns and cutlasses, allegedly broke into the home about 3am on Sunday, September 20, and demanded money.
Arnold said he was awakened by a man choking him in bed. He said the intruders assaulted his eight-year-old son and threatened to kill his seven-year-old daughter with a cutlass at her neck unless he handed over the money.
The men allegedly searched the home, vehicle and family business before escaping with cash, cellphones, jewellery and items from the shop.
Arnold said the ordeal left him traumatised and struggling to sleep, and he sent his children to stay with their mother because he feared for their safety.
Police previously said several people were questioned and CCTV cameras in the area had been identified for review.
Embrack was sentenced in 2023 to 12 months' imprisonment and fined $9 million after pleading guilty to trafficking 33.3 pounds of cannabis.
