The World Trade Centre Georgetown has signed an agreement with the Shridath Ramphal Centre for International Trade Law, Policy and Services to strengthen trade research, training and regional integration.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of the WTCG Business and Investment Conference, which brought together regional and international stakeholders to explore opportunities for trade, investment and economic development.
Dr Kai-Anne Skeete signed for the Shridath Ramphal Centre and WTCG Executive Chairman Kamal Samaroo for the World Trade Centre Georgetown.
The partnership is expected to advance knowledge of international trade and help businesses better understand market requirements, trade agreements and policy developments. It comes as regional economies seek to strengthen commercial relationships, expand market access and improve their ability to compete internationally.
Samaroo told the conference that stronger regional supply chains, better logistics and greater cooperation among business communities are needed to unlock trade between the Caribbean and Latin America. He also called for more efforts to move informal cross-border commerce into formal trade channels and to improve the movement and payment of goods across borders.
The five-day conference marks the first anniversary of the official opening of the World Trade Centre Georgetown. It provides a platform for policymakers, investors, researchers and business leaders to explore partnerships and identify opportunities for sustainable economic growth across Guyana and the wider region.
