Four Linden men lost their lives and three others were hospitalised after the car in which they were travelling crashed into the back of a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) truck along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway on Friday night.
The dead have been identified as 55-year-old Egburt Blair, the driver, of Half Mile, Wismar; 30-year-old Tevin Thompson of One Mile, Wismar; 28-year-old Dannel Darrell of Block 22, Wismar; and 40-year-old Eon Jarvis of Wismar.
The accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. at Long Creek as both vehicles were travelling south along the highway.
According to preliminary police investigations, Blair was driving motor car PZZ 8392 behind the GDF truck when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the rear of the lorry.
Police said the car was allegedly travelling at a fast rate of speed at the time of the collision.
All seven occupants of the car sustained injuries and were rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex. However, Blair, Thompson, Darrell and Jarvis were pronounced dead on arrival.
The three survivors are a 43-year-old woman from Rainbow City, Mackenzie; a 45-year-old man from Block 22, Wismar; and a 40-year-old man from Green Valley, Wismar.
They were admitted to the hospital's Accident and Emergency Unit for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
